Who got the BET Awards in 2024

2024 BET Award

On June 30, 2024, in Los Angeles, during the Peacock Theater BET Awards, Tyla accepted the Best International Act trophy live on stage. On Sunday, June 30, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Usher had a fantastic night at the 2024 BET Awards. Usher won best male R&B/pop artist for the sixth time in addition to being awarded a lifetime achievement award.

View the Full List of Usher's 2024 BET Award Winners With the most awards for best male R&B/pop artist, Usher is only surpassed by Chris Brown. Seven times, Brown has taken home the honour. Usher has the greatest winning streak of any BET category with his 22-year win stretch. Recipient of the BET lifetime achievement award Usher, 45, is the second-youngest. The only person to receive it earlier was Whitney Houston, who was 37 years old when she received it in 2001.

On Billboard, trending Two prizes were shared by Tyla and Victoria Monét. Both Best Foreign Act and Best New Artist were awarded to Tyla. Only three winners of the Best New Artist award who were not born in the United States are the singer from South Africa. Born in Trinidad, Nicki Minaj is the first celebrity she follows, followed by Englishman Sam Smith. The Billboard Hot 100 peaked at No. 7 in January, with Tyla's breakout single, "Water." For greatest African music performance, that song took home the first-ever Grammy Award in February.

The BET Video of the Year Award and the Monét song "On My Mama" prize recognize inspirational and uplifting songs by female musicians. With "On My Mama," she won both of her accolades; the song was nominated for two Grammys: best R&B song and record of the year. November's Soul Train Music Awards saw the Child-directed video win in that category as well.

The album of the year was awarded to Killer Mike's Michael. On February 4, the record was awarded the Grammy for Best Rap Album. That evening, Killer Mike got into an argument with an overly vigilant security guard and was taken into custody after the Grammy Awards premiere ceremony. In his BET award speech, Killer Mike made reference to that arrest. With three albums that hit No. 1 (Drake's For All the Dogs, 21 Savage's American Dream, and Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday 2), Michael's top position on the Billboard 200 was No. 58, which is lower than all but one of this year's BET nominations in this category.

For the second year running, SZA was named best female R&B/pop artist. Since Beyoncé won six consecutive years in a row from 2014 to 19, she is the only artist to win an award in this category twice. For the sixth time in history, Kendrick Lamar was named the best male hip-hop performer. Drake, the four-time champion in the division, was defeated by him. Lamar won this year's diss track competition against Drake, according to the majority of scorecards. For the eighth time ever, Nicki Minaj took home the best female hip-hop artist award. Having won five times in the category, Missy Elliott is in second place. It had been eight years since Minaj had won in this category.

The best group went to Ty Dolla $ign and Ye. Ye—formerly known as Kanye West—has won in this category twice before. East and Jay-Z became victorious as The Throne in 2012. Besides Future (2016) and 21 Savage (2023), Drake has also won in this category twice, this time with two different partners. For the sixth consecutive time in history, Beyoncé took home the viewer's choice award for "Texas Hold 'Em." For "Formation," "Sorry," "Savage (Remix)," a Megan Thee Stallion song on which she appeared, and "Break My Soul," she had previously won in this category. This creates a real chance that this song (or the music video) will take home a BET and CMA award simultaneously. Early September is anticipated to see the submission of this year's CMA Award nominees.

The recipient of the YoungStars Award is Blue Ivy Carter, a 12-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. There have been some second-generation talents among the category's past winners. The daughters of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are Jaden and Willow Smith (2011), while the son of Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons of Run-D.M.C., Diggy Simmons III (2012), is the winner. After Jaden, who was 12, and Willow, who was 10, Blue Ivy is the youngest winner in this category. BET was won by Blue Ivy. Four years prior, she received recognition as a featured performer on her mother's "Brown Skin Girl" album alongside Wizkid and Saint John. As the youngest BET winner in history, she was eight years old at the time.

Tems' song "Me & U" was the winner of the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspiratory Award. A Grammy nomination for best R&B song was given to the tune, which Bailey co-wrote, earlier this year. The best film went to Bob Marley: One Love. American Fiction, which was put forth for an Academy Award nomination in March for Best Picture, lost to it. Next year's Oscars will feature Bob Marley: One Love, which was released on February 14. In this BET category's fourteen-year existence, only one movie—Steve McQueen's Twelve Years a Slave—has taken home the gold in both shows. For the fourth time in a row, Denzel Washington took home the finest actor award. After three victories in the category, Will Smith is in second place. Washington starred in just one movie in 2023, The Equalizer 3.

Just Taraji P. Henson, with six wins, and Halle Berry, with three victories, have won as many best actress awards as Regina King has. King played the lead role in Shirley, a biographical film about Shirley Chisolm, the first African American woman elected to Congress and the candidate who unsuccessfully sought the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. Before making a quick run in theatres before making its Netflix premiere in March, John Ridley wrote and directed the picture. "Fearless. Fierce. First," reads the movie's slogan. Sportswoman of the Year went to Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese, who earned the award twice in a row. NBA point guard Jalen Brunson took home the sportsmanship award.
